I list and sell homes in Red Deer and other Central Alberta settings. Real Estate gives me the opportunity to help people find better homes, homes that fit their current needs. I enjoy meeting people and helping them weigh their housing needs. Spending some time together is great. As we learn more about each other, mutual trust and confidence grows. My clients know that I won’t be pushing them into decisions. When we find the right home, they know that my knowledge of real estate--prices, terms, conditions, negotiating--will lead to a successful purchase or sale. My goal is to provide excellent service and that includes after sale service. To do this I try to keep in touch after the sale. I send out newsletters and calendars. I do not pester my clients with lots of calls or flyers or phone calls to appeal for new business. I do like bumping into each other and exchanging greetings—chit-cat is fun and everyone is good at it. While I always seeking new business, I believe that people like, and remember sales people who respect their privacy. Each year more of my business comes from people I know or people who have referred others to me. In 2004, 50% of my clients were from this sphere and 27% was from referrals. My system works but it takes time and patience. Good thing I learned patience in my previous career, as an educator. Life certainly delivers new paths to us over the years. Someone suggesting that I would leave teaching and school administration to become a sales man would have induced a sharp burst of laughter. And who would have thought that Joanne would give up her nursing career to work as my real estate assistant? But change happens and like it or hate it, you deal with it. Politics forced me to look elsewhere and, while I miss schools and kids, there are some great advantages to our new way of life. Red Deer is a great place to live. Our walking trails are gorgeous. There are indoor swimming pools. Winter holidays would have been impossible previously. And Red Deer is central to our children’s homes—via an airport or Highway 2. After a mild heart attack, I am more likely to moderate my pace—slow down--to fit my (aging) body. I enjoy finishing my morning swim even if I go painfully slow. Salads and fruit taste better than ever and my weight is down now that my taste buds have less influence. Life certainly delivers new paths to us over the years. But the real estate market is not always even, and there are peaks and valleys in my work load. I don’t like it when I go the extra mile only to find that things don’t come together. I hate it when my knowledge is used and I’m discarded. The marketplace may be fickle but the highs out number the lows. Most people are great to deal with and we value what each brings to the table. And real estate brings other rewards, like a living. I started in real estate in January 1996. Real estate shocked my system and my survival at year end surprised me. Every year thereafter, I have earned recognition from Century 21 Lesand Advantage and from Century 21 Canada. I earned the 1997 award for "Best Percentage Growth Award." At various times, I’ve been in the Office Top Ten in sales. In 1997 I started earning Century 21 Canada quarterly, semi-annual, and year-end production awards. I’m still doing so. In the end, the ongoing friendships of clients are better fun and better financially. My section, "Testimonials," will let you know what my clients say about me. Please visit. But for the very best of my achievements, check out my family section. The photo below shows me receiving my 1999 Silver award from the Chairman of Century 21 Canada, U. Gary Charlwood.
